Republican Congressman Todd Platts (PA-19) has been one of the staunchest supporters of the Bush-Cheney agenda. This year, we have a chance to unseat him.
Phil Avillo, a combat-wounded veteran and history professor, is running a tough issues-focused campaign against four-term Bush-enabler Platts.
On Thursday, Avillo will host a bipartisan symposium on the current economic crisis.
"Our communities and the nation were rocked last week by unprecedented economic upheaval and massive government intervention into the 'free market' economy," Phil Avillo said in York today.
"Very few of us fully understand what's going on and how it impacts our local governments and communities. We think it's prudent now for our local leaders -- our mayors, local officials and experts -- to get together to explore the extent of what's happening in Washington and Wall Street, and what it all means to those of us who live right here on Main Street." Avillo added.
Featured panelists include Republicans Camp Hill Mayor Lou Thieblemont and Dover Area School Board Director Rick Dapp, along with Democrats York County Commissioner Doug Hoke and York Mayor John Brenner.
This district, located in South Central PA, went solidly to Bush and Platts last time. But that was two years ago. People here, just like everywhere, are hurting. They're upset with politics as usual and the status quo.
With the state government facing huge deficits, there's a "throw all the bums out" mentality in the air.
