This is just amazing! This is hardcore Republican country. This is Pennsyltucky at its reddest and the Obama Campaign opened an office on Monday right in downtown Hanover. Unbelievable!
Just a little background... Hanover lies in South Central PA right at the bottom of the infamous "T" that cuts through the center and across the top of PA. Carville once said between Philly and Pittsburgh lies Alabama.
It's an exaggeration, but not by much.
Here are a couple of quotes from yesterday's Hanover Sun:
Walter Nyblade bought an Obama-Biden yard sign Monday afternoon. Nyblade, who has lived in Hanover since 1996, said he believes the environment in Hanover is changing, with more Democrats moving to the area, and he was happy to see the office open.
"I think we need a change," Nyblade said.
Bob Ziegler, of Hanover, stopped at the office Tuesday afternoon to pick up buttons and stickers. He also put his name on a waiting list for a yard sign.
"I've been dying to see this office open," Ziegler said.
He said he is a passionate Democrat, particularly for this election. He said it was Obama's sincerity and honesty that won him over.
Hanover is located in the middle of District 19, which Bush won by something like 65-35% in 2004. Quick sidebar: Vietnam Veteran Phil Avillo is running against four-term Bush enabler Todd Platts. If you can spare a few shekels, Phil could use the support.
In 2004, Kerry barely had a functioning office in York. In 2008, Obama has opened 80 offices in PA including Hanover. Just un-freakin'-believable!
