Mike Ditka gives his endorsement to the McCain-Palin ticket.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. While Barack Obama is picking up major endorsements from Colin Powell, Reagan's chief of staff Ken Duberstein and the Chicago tribune, the Republican ticket counters all that good stuff with...
former Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka.
During a rally at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe, PA, Governor Palin spent much of the time attacking Barack Obama for being a proponent of Big Government and aligning himself with the far left-wing of the Democratic party.
Hmm...
Someone should remind Governor numbnuts that if anyone is aligning themselves with the fringe element of their political party, it's her.
But to me, the best part of the rally is when Mike Ditka came up to the podium and delivered his stump speech for Sarah Palin.
Some of the nuggets of Ditka's speech include:
"When I was growing up in 1963, John Kennedy became President. And he said, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
"This is land of opportunity. Not a land of handouts."
"If your willing to work, you can find a job."
"Sarah Palin epitomizes all the good things all the good values of this country."
One of the biggest lies told by John McCain and members of the Republican party is that Barack Obama has the inability to reach across the aisle and work with the other political party. Yet, the Ditka speech proves that its the Republican party who has no intentions of reaching across party lines, nor do they have any aim to include anyone except those who are uber-patriotic and void of any intelligence.
Mike Ditka is a symbol of that.
He's an orange-face boob who doesn't have an original thought. Never had. Never will.
But something struck me about Ditka's stump speech and it has something to do with the hypocrisy of the modern day Conservative movement.
First off, I would like to say to Da Coach, that JFK said those memorable words on Jan 20, 1961. In 1963, he was shot to death.
"This is a land of opportunity, not a land of handouts."
I find this kind of ironic coming from a gentleman who wants you to give handouts to broken down, old football players from another generation. I actually feel sorry for those like Jerry Kramer who receive such piss poor benefits from the NFL players Union. But refresh my memory, isn't the whole idea of Conservatism all revolve around the idea of Personal Responsiblity? That no one will ever give you a handout in this country. Or, the idea of choice. Those football players made a choice to play in a violent sport. So, why anyone should stop and cry a tear for them?
Second, is that Mike Ditka is John McCain's equal.
For many years I've heard how many Chicago sports fans put this man on a pedestal. You wouldn't believe the many Chicago sports fans who actually believe that this guy is the greatest coach in Chicago Sports history. It's as if Phil Jackson's 6 NBA titles never happened. It's as if George Halas didn't win 6 NFL championships. It's as if Mount Carmel High school Football coach Frank Lenti didn't win 8 state titles. It's as if Ray Meyer never coached the Depaul Blue Demons.
When Ditka went to coach the New Orleans Saints he was proven to be a fraud. His only talent was to motivate his players with fiery speeches but instead they tuned him out. Ditka's success in Chicago had to do with the fact that then GM Jim Finks brought together a collection of talent that would eventually win a Super Bowl in 1985. A team that was built to win mulitple Super Bowls could only accomplish one under Mike Ditka. I'll give old orange-face credit, at least he admitted that he should've one more than one. However, I do believe that a superior coach who doesn't rely on one tactic alone would've dominated the decade with that team in Chicago.
So, what does this have to do with John McCain?
Like Ditka, Senator McCain was proven to be fraud. During this campaign he utilize the same cutthroat tactics that derail his attempt at the Presidency in 2000. He claims to be a man who puts his country first, but put his country dead last when he chose an individual who is clearly unqualified to even run a third world country, much less, a McDonald's to be his running mate.
McCain and Ditka. Brothers in Arms.
The Ditka speech really put me in a bit of a down mood. For starters, we, I do mean all Chicagoans, have to live with the indignation of hearing him spew nonsense while his acolytes defend him as if he is the second coming of the Lord. Finally, what gave me pause was that his speech is a reflection of what has been happening in this country for the last 40 years. We've been led by the orange-face boob who lacks intelligence. Who sees America as those who live in Real America and those who don't. Who governs by the gut and not with his brain.
The November 4th Presidential election is a referendum of the last 40 years. And, if the country gives us another 4 years of a Government led by the Mike Ditkas of the world, then we deserve to be the laughingstock of the world.
