Today's New York Times mines the inner recesses of DKos's psyche in a way that's so dead-on that I think they recruited their interviewees from here: Obama is up, and Fans Fear That Jinxes It.
Among the best people featured (and honest to goodness, no offense if you're quoted here!): Jon Downs, New Hope PA.
"Look, I have this sense of impending doom; we’ve had a couple of elections stolen already... The only thing worse than losing is to think that you’re going to win and then lose."
He considers that prospect and mutters, almost involuntarily, "Oh, God."
Patricia Kuhlmann, Upper West Side, NY.
Oh, God, I’m optimistic, but I can’t look at the polls... I’m a PBS/NPR kind of person, and, O.K., I do look at some polls. If he doesn’t get this, I’ll be crying so hard.
Lisa Serizawa, San Francisco:
We live in a bubble. I drove to Monterey recently, and I saw my first McCain placard ever.
We laugh because it's true. I live on the UWS, have seen a grand total of one McCain sign in the past two months vs. hundreds of Obama signs and buttons, and on nearly every block there's someone selling Obama gear. That is not hyperbole. Yet I know a bunch of people who are scared to death right now. Every day somewhere the polls are tightening, and fears that millions of closet racists and vote fraud experts are going to swoop in from the south and midwest to steal this are rampant. And since we've never had an African-American get this close to the Presidency before, nobody would question it.
The truth is that they might be right. Crazier things have happened. But what are you supposed to do, hide in the corner while McCain snatches it away?

The truth is that Obama / Biden have a healthy, steady lead right now, millions are voting already, and we're three days from a new era in American leadership. But it is not over. They're only going to be able to take it away if you let them. Get involved -- you could be the game-changer!
