I am a former life-long republican, who jumped ship after watching our federal government waste trillions of dollars on a stupid war mongering foreign policy. I am also a Catholic, and before this election, I have never voted for a democrat.
And then last week, I went to the early voting polling center, and did what I never imagined I would ever do: I voted for the democrat, Barack Obama.
As I drove away from the polling place, I felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I finally severed whatever was left of my former self-righteous ideaology. Instead of voting against my enemy, I voted for my leader. I was no longer voting out of fear, but out of pride!
Ahhhhhhhh, sweet surrender! What a wonderful feeling.
As the week wore on, I joyfully watched as a cadre of well-respected conservative and Republican leaders came out and endorsed Obama. Most remarkable about these endorsements was that we saw the same catharsis happening with these Republicans on the national stage.
Then today, I got up and started surfing the web for poitical news as usual. Eventually, I stumbled upon this video, courtesy of Republicans for Obama.
The video perfectly captures the feelings of a Republican supporting Obama. And then I thought, wow, I should really send this to all of my Republican friends and family. So I did. Not because I want to win any argument, or convince them that I'm right and they're wrong, but simply as an invitation to join with me and other former Republicans, as we cast the burdens of partisan bickering aside, follow our conscience, and bask in the warmth of sweet, wonderful surrender.
Try sending it to your Republican friends and family. You might be skeptical, but trust me, deep down, many of them are simply waiting for the invitation.
