It has been a long time since I have written a diary, so bear with me. I used that phrase "electoral shock therapy" in a comment to yesterday's Morning Reaction diary and it has been rattling around in my head ever since. I've noticed this morning several other people expressing anxiety about the election, so I thought I would try expanding that thought into a diary.
Seriously, if you are anxious about this election, the best treatment is to get out and do something about it. Now. If it's not working, do more. Do everything you can to help deliver the dose of electoral shock therapy that our country so desperately needs.
It may feel like time has run out, but there is so much more that can be done. If you don't know what to do, start with Barack's website. There you can easily find a place where you can help. Here are some things you can do:
- Phone bank
- Canvass
- Give rides to the polls
- Show up at your local Obama or Democratic Party office. If you walk in ready to work, I guarantee you there will be something for you to do.
- While you are there, slip a few dollars into the donation box to help buy last minute supplies.
I'm writing this in a hurry, so I'm sure I've left off many things that can be done. Please use the comments to expand the list, or to identify offices that you know need help.
If you need a little extra motivation, just imagine the following:
- As embarrassing as that prank call to Sarah Palin was, what if it had been the real thing? What if she is the one taking that 3am phone call?
- Listen, how many times can you bear hearing "my friends" during a 4 year term?
- Will you be responsible for your actions if you have to go through hearing smug right-wingers telling you to "get over it" again?
- Picture Todd and Joe the Plumber grilling' mooseburgers on the White House lawn for the first state dinner.
You get the picture. Now go work it off.
