MSNBC is keeping the political narrative going over the week-end with digests, of a sort, of earlier hours, seemingly from their stock of Olbermann, Tweetie-Bird and Rachel broadcasts. Rachel was at it again tonight, doing her 'negativity' thing: Rachel the redistributor of the negatives! And, if I may say so, just when we have had more than enough of that!
I could hardly believe my ears when looking in upon MSNBC tonigiht (7pm MST) there was the Maddow Hour with Rachel being Mme Negative, yet again. There has been minimal press attention that I have seen on the matter of Obama's half-aunt (his late father's half-sister), being in the country illegally. Obama did not know and voiced his disapproval. Then I saw nothing for 36-hours. Until this evening.
Now our own Cassandra opens her hour tonight with a big expose on how the Bush Admin. is releasing 'leaks' on the Obama Aunt and perhaps other matters just to favor the McCain campaign. Oh boy. Rachel, old dear, if you had not brought this up tonight to several tens of thousands of people, the subject of illegal-Auntie would have gone on to die its natural and insignificant death.
I am chastised in this room for finding Rachel too negative - and I accept your censure to the extent it is deserved, but man-o-wockety, she just keeps doing it and I am just going to call her out on it, when it seems inappropriate, such as tonight.
Rachel is an interesting woman; a wit, very bright, still young and inexperienced in politics -- she's never run for office, has she? She is a fine professional journalist, somewhat given to sensationalism, as so many of them are. And she has a certain 'snark level,' whether she admits it or not. At the same time she is a professed progressive liberal, and NBC seems delighted to have her on the air in that guise. But she is sending a less-than-clear message and I am getting a bit tired of it all. Yes, yes I know: Tonight was about how corrupt the Republicans and Bush are, I am aware of that. But in the process of explaining all that she has to recirculate their dirty dealings about Obama -- stuff better left alone. Got that Rache? I know you read kos -- so what do you think?
