I am not worried about Obama/Biden securing victory. I could see it today in my Maryland local office. There was an early morning email and schedule for the next few days GOTV activities as well as a call for bottled water for volunteer canvassers. Its hard to be a mama26 and canvass, but I can haul water in the minivan so I ducked out to the discount store for a load of water/snacks and dropped them off. People were so thick they couldn't fit them all in the office space so they were organizing the second of two drive to PA canvassing teams.
The office has been sending out two a day all weekend for over a month and is now sending two a day until and including election day. I am so proud of our office - its all volunteer and we only had one paid staffer for a week in the primaries who basically walked in to a fully operational office- they are working two battleground states as hard as they can. It is nice to be close to the border of PA and VA and know that our own state is safely in the blue column!
Anyway, there were two offices full of phone bankers and what looked to be 30 more canvassers heading out to PA this afternoon. Across the street from the office is an intersection. For days there have been idiots holding up and waving McCain Palin signs. Now this is no where near the busiest intersection in my city. There would be lots of others that would see more car traffic and thus get more visibility. No, this - much like their candidate - is simply a spiteful thumb in the eye to the Obama workers. But the office is filled with people who model ourselves on our candidate. We don't get mad, we don't get even. We know that signs don't vote. We don't waste time standing in front of their office waving a sign in their face. We call people (thousands of people according to the tallys on signs in the office). We talk to people (hundreds of canvassers sent to TWO battleground states for months). Grandmama26 has gone to the office all day EVERY SUNDAY for the last six weeks. Let them wave their petty signs- we ARE going to win!
You can look at this great link that compares and contrasts the fact that what I saw today is true around the country.
