If we really want unity be nice to Republicans.
If Obama wins tomorrow it will be very tempting to call and email our Republican pals and tap dance all over thier sorry skulls.
Don't do it!
Obama has delivered a positive message this season. He has called for the end of bitter partisanship that has infected our politics for the past 8 years. I think it is up to us as voters and victorious Dem's to follow through. We have been called every name in the book by Pubs over the years. I won't list them here but it's long.
I want a better country. I want a fair country. I want a country where we can disagree without being mean. I want to be the change we have been waiting for.
I think there will be lot's of depressed pubs on election day and nothing will make them angrier than having thier Obama pals rubbing salt in the wound. Why poke a stick in thier cage?
I suggest you call them and congratulate them on a well fought race. Tell them you want to hear thier ideas over the next four years. Tell them there is room at the table in an Obama Presidency for thier ideas.
We have a lot of work to do and we need everyone pitching in.
Sure they will be some Pub's who tell you stick it but some will appreciate it. They will remember it down the road.
Shock your Republican pals - be NICE!
UPDATE: I think many of you are missing the point of this post. We have a lot of work to do. Nothing will shame Republicans more than offering an olive branch. If they refuse to accept it then they can head off into the wilderness.
Be like Dr Martin Luther King. Shame Republicans into being good Americans. Shame them with your ability to rise above partisanship. Be the better person. Invite them to be a part of this great American experiment.
Yes, we can be a better nation. It start with you. It starts with post-partisanship. Remember, if they don't hate us - we win!
