I am totally stoked for Election Day.
Seriously, I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. I can't wait to get to the booth and fill in the circle for Barack Obama/Joe Biden. I feel like the nightmare of the last 8 years is finally going to come an abrupt end and "conservatism" as a national policy approach will finally end up in trash bin where it belongs.
It's time for progressive policies that push for better education, improved and expanded health care, alternative energy, ending the War in Iraq, realigning tax policy for the Middle Class, and in general a return to peace and prosperity as a nation.
Barack Obama will also help to break down racial stereotypes. While race doesn't matter to Kos readers, it does matter to a great many Americans. Those for whom race is a problem will be forced to confront the fact that America has a black president -- and he will be a great president. The country won't devolve into chaos as the racists predict -- in fact the country will grow stronger, because progressive policies benefit the People.
Just as important, the right-wing smear machine has failed. They have thrown everything at Obama: things that are true, things that are exaggerated, things that are blatanly misrepresented, and things that are outrageously false. And Obama bought a 30-minute ad on numerous national TV channels where he didn't say a single negative thing about his opponent -- he simply explained his position to America. That's a new kind of politics.
I have an expensive bottle of pinot noir that has been waiting for an occasion for uncorking. Tomorrow night, let's all raise a glass to the most exciting change to the United States in a generation.
