this will be short, sweet and to the point.
here are some awesome songs to jam to while fretting over returns tomorrow while pundits blabber on about whatever it is they blabber about nowadays:
all artists have endorsed obama and these are songs that they have either used for his aide or I feel relate to the campaign and it's dedication to progress, hope and being badass
1) The National- "Fake Empire"
Free Stream
You may remember this song from that awesome Obama commercial that came out near convention time:
the national will be back later in the list
2) The Boss-"This land is your land" (Woody Guthrie cover)
I agree with the man in his intro, this is one of the greatest songs about america, by one of america's greatest artists. this is an old video but what he says is still really true.
"remember countries, just like with people, it's easy to let the best of you slip away"
3) the Decemberists- "16 Military Wives"
This is a song about war and politics
but it is awesome and upbeat and has a great video. You may remember the decemberists from that awesome portland rally in may . If you believe the pundits they were all there to see the Decemberists.
4)R.E.M.- "Sitting Still"
If you are from the south (and if you're not, then screw you[I jest]) then you love R.E.M., right? They represent everything that is awesome about the south, not the stupid feaux-confederate bull that people today associate with the word Georgia. THIS is a video from when I saw them in Raleigh this may a few days after the obama victory in North Carolina. Stipe and co thanked the crowd and talked about how much he loved being from the south. This song is about being from the south and I love it. From their 1984 classic Murmur, which is sort of like Obama's "one voice can change a room" bit.
great band, great song, great region, great memories
5) Superchunk-"Throwing Things"
Awesome awesome band from my home town playing an obama rally in my hometown. Enjoy their awesome energy and pro-obama awesomeness
rock and roll stuff
6) Wilco-"War on War"
What can you say about wilco. What can you say about this album Yankee hotel Foxtrot that hasn't been said.
You hafta learn how to die
7) Nas-"Black President"
If you aren't plugged into modern youth culture, school yourself
It's a little like will. I. am's YES WE CANvideo but different
8) The Arcade Fire- "Wake Up"
I'm sorry, another video from the obama/merge records rally I went to.
skip to 3 minutes, watch it and I know the quality is bad but if you're old then you can really get a feel of what it's like to be young in this moment. This song is so fracking awesome and we were all screaming our lungs off out of key and it was just magical magical magical.
also you can see my friend Jeremy's head for most of the video
warning: you might get seasick from the camera work
oh man I feel so nostalgic right now :( :( :(
9) Sufjan Stevens- "Jacksonville"
I'm not afraid of the black man running, he's got it right he's got a better life coming
10) The National- Mr. November
I love this song and I just found this video and it's awesome. I saw the national open for R.E.M. in may and they closed with this and it was so awesome. Since then this has been my get pumped about obama song. listen and you'll know why
I'm the new blue blood
Well, this brings me to the end. Looking back it's been one hell of a 20 month period. It could all be over in 24 hours
oh my god
PLEASE suggest your own songs and I'll put ones I think are awesome up. listen to these tonight, tomorrow, and forever whenever the anchor person on tv goes la didadida
yes we can
