Apparently Mika Brzezinski is buying into the "Palin was mishandled" narrative hook, line, and sinker. Tonight on Race for the White House, she actually had this scary exchange with McCain Senior Advisor Nicole Wallace.
MIKA:
"I want to ask you about Sarah Palin. She was quite amazing today. I was watching her in Lakewood, Ohio, performing umm, beautifully, really - masterfully - and really growing, amidst a great deal of challenge, some it fair and some of it unfair from the media."
"I wonder how she feels, and how you feel about how the campaign has handled her. Do you think she was overcoached? Was the Katie Couric interview a mistake? Was the clothing thing a mistake?"
The Katie Couric interview was a "mistake"? Are you kidding me? It was the fault of Palin's handlers that they didn't shield her even MORE from the press? This woman is running for Vice President of the United States of America and you are blaming her handlers for letting her sit for an interview on the CBS Evening News? What planet are you from Mika? Are you really related to Zbig? Seriously?
Unbelivably, the madness continued...
WALLACE:
"You know everything about Sarah Palin is what we hope we will find in our leaders. is a mom, she is a governor, she is smart, she is authentic, she has her own views about how this campaign has been run, and obviously she sits at the table and makes strategic decisions..."
MIKA:
"I don't know if you can see me, but I'm accused of having 'Palin hair' tonight...."
"But here's the thing. You are absolutely right that she draws the crowds and she's doing really well with them, and I think the criticism from what I'm hearing and reading is moving away from Sarah Palin and to her handlers.."
Mika then went on to cite the recent prank call that Palin fell for as an example of her handlers letting her down!
Wallace then even tried to shift the conversation back to actual campaign issues, believe it or not!
WALLACE:
"I think the voters are looking at 2 tickets with diametrically opposed philosophies - do we win the war? Do we come home - I'm sorry -"
MIKA:
"But what's new to talk though is how she's performing, and I mean I noted today, a big difference in this woman."
Now if you're like me, all this praise Mika heaped on Palin for her performance today might have made you curious about exactly what the Alaska Governor had to say.
Turns out the MSNBC website has some actual reporting on this morning's rally:
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/...
...speaking of Obama’s views on coal, she repeatedly stumbled on the word “bankrupting,” calling it “bankruptcing.”
Hmm, bankruptcing doesn't sound much like a word to me. Probably those damn handlers with their over-coaching again!
But she recovered to offer a stinging attack on Obama’s double speak, suggesting the city of San Francisco has a truth-telling effect on the Democratic presidential candidate.
Ah, that's more like it - you go, girl!
Palin has drawn strong applause in recent days by evoking fear of a Democratic-controlled White House and Congress, and suggesting they will cut defense spending by 25 percent. But she took the charge a step farther Monday.
“This in a time of multiple conflicts and obvious danger still to the homeland,” she said. “What do they think? That the terrorists have suddenly changed their minds and no longer do they seek to destroy America and her allies and all that it is that we stand for – freedom, democracy, equal rights, tolerance all those things that we stand for? Do they thing the terrorists have changed their minds?”
Oh, she's good. What an impressive performance indeed. Lying about her opponents and saying they will make us vulnerable to a terrorist attack. How clever. How innovative. This is the Sarah we've all been waiting for. If only her handlers hadn't held her back all these weeks!
