Someone hacked into George Mason University's email system and sent out a fake email from the Provost, claiming the election was on Nov. 5th
I teach at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, a State University of over 20, 000 students. This morning I found this fake email in my inbox, purporting to be from the Provost
The email went out to every student and employee of GMU
"To the Mason Community:
Please note that election day has been moved to November 5th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Peter N. Stearns
Provost"
Here's a screen grab:

It's a completely convincing fake--it looks exactly like the message the Provost sent out later this morning
"Dear Colleagues,
It has come to my attention early this morning that a message was hacked into the system fraudulently stating that election day has been moved. I am sure everybody realizes this is a hoax, it is also a serious offense and we are looking into it. Please be reminded that election day is today, November 4th.
Peter N. Stearns
Provost"
A heavy handed attempt, probably not very effective. But just an example of what we have to expect all day, I think
