For ex-pats, early-birds, and other OCD types who have already cast their ballots in the weeks (and months!) leading up to the election, who don't want to feel left out. I know some of these stories have been scattered through DailyKos for a long time now, but I thought it would be nice to have some of them gathered together here as little Election Day treat. Here's your chance to tell your poignant tale of standing in front of the mailbox clutching your bit of history, or whatever your story might be.
I cast my North Carolina ballot in a Shoppers Drug Mart mail drop in Vancouver, BC. No one was with me. I forgot to ask my hubby to come and take a picture of the historic moment. I kind of tried to wave the ballot around conspicuously before sailing it into the slot with a little flourish. No one cared. People around me continued their quotidian tasks: filling out Customs mailing forms, haggling over postal service rates with bored clerks, trying to get the little leashed pens at the counter to surrender their ink. I turned away from the box. No one gave me a sticker.
But it doesn't matter, because I get to feel part of the excitement today through reading your stories, and looking at the amazing images of voting lines back home, and doing some last-minute phonebanking, and waiting for the results to come in! Thank you, DailyKos, for keeping me (and so many folks) going -- and feeling connected -- through this incredibly long and exhausting election.
Now it's time to savor our day!
