So... we have all heard about how teens and other first-time voters have registered in record numbers for this critical election. And we have heard ad nauseum about how they may or may nor turn out, were under-represented in early voting, or this, that, or the other measure of voter turnout.
It's not too late to make sure they vote - here's how:
With apologies to (and inspiriation from) Sarah Silverman's Great Schlep, it is time to turn the tables on the kids. If you know of any young voters (and self-serving as it is, especially left-leaning voters) that you have concerns about whether they will actually vote today, now is the time to initiate
THE GREAT NAG.
Here's how it works:
(1) Communicate to them via their preferred method - TXT / PIX / email.
(2) Remind them that as their parent / aunt / uncle / grandparent / concerned neighbor, etc. you are certain that they are going to exercise their right to vote today.
(3) Tell them you want to share in their experience - ask them to tell you about their experience. Let them know that you will assist if necessary, finding their polling place, giving them a ride, etc. And if they live in a state like MN where I live, remind them that they can still register at the polls today if they haven't yet registered.
(4) Remind them to STAY IN LINE until they have cast their ballot!!!
(5) Ask them to send you a PIX message of their "I Voted" sticker.
(6) Nag them hourly until they do!
(7) Repeat for every young / first time voter you know!
I don't know if anyone will do this, but it is worth a try - please include any feedback in the comments about how to turn the registered kids into experienced voters today!!!
