Today was one of the longest of my life. On this historic day, I was only serving my first day on our county grand jury, and we had so many cases to pass judgment on that we were there until 6 PM. And many of these cases were heartbreaking. Especially the domestic violence ones, which have seen such an upsurge with the economic stress levels. It really brought home how tough things are out there.
But I got through it and spend the evening watching the returns, first on Comedy Central and then on MSNBC. The scene in Grant Park was abolutely incredible. Seeing the diversity of the crowd, the size of the crowd, who were all supporting a smart, young half black/half white man who was well on his way to winning, made me proud. Real proud. And when I received that email from Barack right before he spoke to that giant crowd, I knew we were seeing history, in more ways than one.
You're Welcome,Barack! And I can't wait to find out what comes next!
But let's visit our friends on the more "conservative" blogs, shall we? I'm curious to see how they are taking this beat down....
SO I woke up and let the dogs out, and couldn't go back to bed without checking on the Senate races. Snowing lightly here in Bend, and it's a beautiful night under a smiling half moon. Saw Obama even won here in Deschutes County, which went heavily for Bush the last two times. 56-41 in '04 and 55-38 in '00. That's good news.
Merkley is still down slightly, but there appears to be only about 1/3 of the votes counted in our two biggest and most blue counties, so that's looking good. MN, GA, AK still in play. We'll be close to 60, and I'm trusting that Obama will be able to rope a couple R's in when he really needs them.
Looked at the recced diaries with all the beautiful covers from all over the world. Man, I just really still can't quite believe we pulled this off. And the moment when the families came out was too much for me--the tears started rolling down my cheeks. I'm a 50-year old guy, and that doesn't happen too often.
And I started wondering: So how are they taking it over at Redstate? Let's find out:
Like yesterday and tomorrow, the sun rises today. The landscape this morning, early as I post, looks much different from yesterday....
A few weeks ago in Sunday School our teacher pointed out that many people confuse the church for a hospital. People come in to take care of their problems, share sympathies with like minded friends, etc. In fact, the church is part of an army on the front lines advancing against hell. Like any good army, there is a hospital component, but it’s all part of the army in the war.
Politics is the same way. At least I view it as such....
RedState stands at the front lines in the fight against the left. We fight hard here. We are not always meant to win. This is a never ending war. Often we view the fight for the White House as the war, but it is just one battle along the way. The war in politics between left and right does not end....
The same is true for us. You may not want to post diaries for a while. You may not want to engage in the comments. You may be feeling raw and just don’t want to deal with it. So don’t. Rest and recover. But stop by the site and read. Stay engaged on email. Don’t withdraw completely, despite your inclination to do so. At some point again you will be needed. We will need you. And you will again, though you may not think so today, you will again want to fight....

Ah, the sound of one who wants to crawl into bed and not come out for awhile. The spanking was thorough, and must have been stunning and disheartening to those true McPalin Believers.
From an earlier Redstate diary we get a peek at the mindset of such folk:
Point one: There's no need to start pointing fingers within the party. This election was on style, not substance. No faction's to blame, and no policy is at fault. We know this because Obama won. He ran on no ideas at all...
Yep, they really pay attention to reality over there. And now it's time for them to crawl back under the rock for awhile.
Another of my favorite wingnut sites is Townhall. They must be rather upset at the thrashing as well. I bet the Election Night Aftermath Townhall Discussion has some real pearls of wisdom. Let's take a random stroll through the comments:
What Happened?
When the hearts and minds of Americans can be bedazzeled so easily from flashy picture box in the center of everyones living room....What percentage of American actully did the resech on the one they were voting for? My guess its pretty low considering the outcome.
the right wing conspiracy is back
I think it was Lincoln who said We conservatives have to leave yesterday's fighting for yesterday and start a new moral struggle today. Or myself. This new attack must take form in taking control of some aspect of information that the Left dominates today and by revealing the truth about Obama, unfettered. The anti Obama force is strong and will only grow stronger. We have to make Bush bashing look like a pregame weigh-in compared to our main event- the people of the REAL US vs. Obama Nation.
Look at Them, True Americans
You read their comments! You who are True Americans, this is what G-d is showing you, we have been too nice with the wicked ! They stand on the corners with their buckets begging for money for their illigitimate children..they force government programs down our throats so we raise their illigitimate children and then they turn against US, they hide behind the party label..Is a bitter lesson but it is our fault for allowing our stupidity to be disguised as niceness and christianity ! Sheep amongst wolves ! while they destroy our cities, constantly accuse US falsely ! That is what needs to die tonight our stupidity !
Is our country and we love it ! Just like all those who died for it, we need to take it back and not ever allow this to happen again !
Stop buying the BS, stop giving your money away to those that will use it against US..Remember there are many of US, more than you realize ! Go fight it is just beginning and this one we will Win !
Don't give up on US
Those of US who love freedom and the American way are bitterly dissapointed, I know I am but, we cannot give up..that is what those that betrayed US with a vote for obaliar want US to do ! Rememeber there are many of US and there will be even more when things start to go to hell, like they will. LEARN THE LESSONS ! Stop supporting the anti-Americans, media, black racist groups..Watch where your money goes, stop being so darn nice to these jerks that want to destroy US,...
Fiesty bunch over there at Townhall. But what was striking was the number of progressive posts that were there, and were not being deleted as usual.
Yes, it's a new day in the history of America.
Thank YOU, Barack.
