Last night I wept for our Country...
However, unlike the last few years, I wept in silent joy that the American people saw the need for change and delivered. I also take comfort in knowing I'm not alone. I saw 200 thousand people in Grant Park, some openly cheering, some openly weeping and others with a solemn resolute glow; looking as if to say 'Finally. We did it. We took back our Country'. I saw all ethnic groups standing as one; taking solace, resolute vindication in their convictions that we can now do better. All of this to be expected... We have been treated by this Administration and there surrogates as if we were second class citizens, called traitors or un-American because we dared to speak up for a country that we love. Yesterday we spoke up and the world listened.
As early as last night's acceptance speech, we saw that America can once again lead on the world stage. Not by fear or intimidation but, on the core principles this nation was founded on. While I'm under no illusion that the next 4 years will be easy and, I know that President Elect Obama will have to mend a country that was purposely torn apart by Republican strategy, today I choose to bask in the sun of 'what can be' and optimistic for what will come tomorrow......
