John McCain
A week ago, pondering a Obama victory, I wondered if I should be gracious in victory and pay tribute to John McCain, however, right up to and including polling day, McCain continued, his highly personal attack against Obama.
I can justify why McCain doesn't deserve our gratitude;
1, The One - When Obama wrapped up the nomination, McCain goaded him, into going to Iraq and Afghanistan. Barack went, and came back to America, a statesman and presidential. McCain complained about all the positive media coverage Barack was getting, and even had to play Robert Novak, by suggesting he would be soon be picking his VP.
To further demean Obama, he cut an ad, suggesting Obama's success abroad, only made him a celebrity, and on a par with Paris Hilton.
2, Obama the soldier killer - John McCain stated on the campaign trail, Obama would lose a war, in order to get elected. To me that implied, Obama would let members of the US military be sacrificed, inorder to be President. We know that was a flat, outrageous lie, because Obama cares about military personnel.
3, Sarah Palin - So Mcshame wants a round of applause for inserting a tina fey look-a-like onto the national political stage. Even the Economist magazine, a Right of Centre publication, argued against her, with these words;
" The Palin appointment is yet more proof of the way that abortion still distorts American politics. This is as true on the left as on the right. But the Republicans seem to have gone furthest in subordinating considerations of competence and merit to pro-life purity. One of the biggest problems with the Bush administration is that it appointed so many incompetents because they were sound on Roe v Wade. Mrs Palin’s elevation suggests that, far from breaking with Mr Bush, Mr McCain is repeating his mistakes."
4, Selling his soul to the Right - In 2000, John McCain was a true maverick, and patriot, hounding the Religious Right, and laying out a case against George W Bush's economic plan. But he morph into McShame when he made up with Jerry Falwell and James Dobson, in order to secure the Republician nomination. If your prepared a lifetime of service and honor, overboard, palling around with nutcases like them, you dont deserve any respect.
If McCain had been a it more Jeb Bartlett and less George W Bush, things may have been a lot different, but that's his loss not anyone else.
