To those of you Kossacks disappointed that our O2B candidate Darcy Burner did not quite drive the stake through Count (Dave) Reichert's heart last night in WA-08, please take heart. The numbers could still be very good for Darcy when all the votes are counted.
Reichert holds a slim lead of 1,446 votes as of this afternoon. WA-08 is located in two counties in Western Washington, King County (Seattle) and Pierce County (Tacoma) to the south. In King County, Burner edged Reichert by 1,374 votes among the first 111,014 King ballots counted. In Pierce County, Reichert beat Burner by 2,820 votes among the first 29,410 Pierce ballots counted.
Now here is the interesting part. According to the Washington Secretary of State website, there are 380,000 absentee ballots remaining to be counted in King County this afternoon. Pierce County does not list the number of absentee ballots remaining to be counted, but it is a far lower number than the outstanding King County ballots.
With the remaining ballots coming more heavily from King County, Darcy Burner still has a chance. Let's send her some good mojo.
