The conservatives are on fire and are going down fast.
On local radio this morning, in the space of fifteen calls, the Neocons had blamed the likes of Peggy Noonan and Christopher Buckley for their loss (without understanding that Noonan was a speechwriter for Reagan, and Buckley's dad FOUNDED the modern Conservative movement in print, so they were killing their idols). And they said the people had voted for Obama because they were immature, blowing any chance of playing nice to them in two years time.
If they're whiny now, just imagine what they'll be like in 2010. More Republican Senatorial seats will be contested than Democratic seats. Below the fold, I'll quickly hit upon a few States that could be in play in 730 days or so.
Arlen Specter (a Republican that said going after bin Laden in 1997 was "diversionary motivation" for Monica) could be up against MSNBC's Chris Matthews, and he'll be 80 years old.
Sam Brownback of Kansas is retiring and Kathy Sebilius is poised to make a case for the Dems.
Mel Martinez in Florida now has to deal with a Blue State mentality.
Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich could be helping turn a bit of Alaska blue (hey, you never know. If Bush doesn't let Stevens out on a pardon, Alaska could still be angry at YouBetcha!).
Former Governor Tom Vilsack, who dropped out of the 2008 presidential race, would be a strong contender for the Democrats in Iowa because Chuck Grassley will be 77.
Kit Bond (R) of Missouri will be in his 70s in two years time, and it's a swing state. Expect some action in a State where we STILL don't know the outcome for this year.
Judd Gregg of New Hampshire could retire, paving the way for a Dem gain.
Richard Burr of North Carolina has consistently registered low approval ratings in a State that (it looks) turned Blue this election.
And George Voinovich of Ohio could be staring at a race against Dennis Kucinich and his HOT wife (sorry).
If there's anyone I've missed out, please post it in the comments. And remember...
...the fight for the fate of our nation never stops. Onwards, ever onwards.
