A week or so ago I posted a diary entry in which I proposed that Sarah Palin, despite a certain infatuation from the conservative right, would prove to be a one-hit wonder in American politics, soon to be relegated to a historical footnote, or perhaps a footnote to Geraldine Ferraro's existing footnote.
Now we watch the process in action.

ABC NEWS is documenting the inevitable post-election blame game.
In this blame game, early returns suggest that the bad stuff we already knew about Sarah Palin was grossly underestimated. $150,000 wardrobe? Only the beginning. She didn't know Africa was a continent? Is that possible?
Whether these reports turn out to be true or not is beside the point. The Republican machine needs someone to blame for this fiasco, and they're not going to pin it on a war hero who remains a senior and influential Senator. Much better to blame the outsider, a woman who was so unprepared for the campaign she didn't even know she was unprepared for the campaign.
The conservative right will find a new hero; Sarah Palin will be sent back to Wasilla where, in all likelihood, her marital problems will be the only thing that ever make the news again after 2008 wraps up. (Prediction: look for the National Enquirer to finally dig up some proof of their long-running investigation to an affair between Palin and her husband's ex business partner.)
