There are a lot of different progressives on the site some in the middle and some on the far left. For those of you on the far left that think our president-elect Barack Obama is on your side, you are correct. For those of you in the middle who think Barack Obama is on your side, you are also correct, but there is a difference on how he will govern.
IMO Barack Obama will not adopt a left leaning agenda, as evidenced by many factors, most notably his appointment of Rahm Emanuel to COS, his chief economic avdisor being Austin Goolsbee and his attitude toward Pakistan harboring terrorists. There is a reason he chose Rahm, much to the chagrin of a lot of liberals. He chose him because he is the best person for the job, and i will explain.
Rahm Emanuel while being a centrist pitbull is also the person who has helped elect more members to congress then anyone else, including Nancy Pelosi. Obama along w/ Emanuel will have more loyalty from these newly elected representatives then Pelosi. This will allow Obama to focus on his own agenda without being forced to the left more then he would like.
I know a lot of u wont agree with my assessment about Emanuel or Obama being more centrist then most of you would like, but I think this is whats best to crush the Republican brand for decades.
Change means something to different to all of us. To me change means more foreign diplomacy, free-markets with a conscience, talented people put in roles to succeed, equal rights for all people, trust in government, a call to civic duty, the end of a government that uses fear to control people and above all an energy policy the breaks our dependence on foreign oil.
I applaud and thank everyone who worked and voted for Obama whether you are a far right wing conservative or a left leaning liberal. I hope everyone on here gets the change they have been desiring, but we all know with so many varying opinions, not everyone will be happy.
Barack has done nothing so far for any one of us supporters to question his judgement including the appointment of Rahm Emanuel as his chief of staff. Have confidence in the man that we all put so much faith in and let him help pave the way for the Change we all seek.
