About Barack Obama, the 2008 election, from Oklahoma newspapers, opinions ranging from tepid acceptance as a sign of the times and racial progress, to dismay about the corruption and evil of socialism -- and the spectre of unwed pregnant women in New Zealand... Charita Goshay has some sharpish observations about the Rev. Wright and Vice Cheney.
And, another hit about socialism and Barack Obama and that SORT of thing!
Ada Evening News:
If Barack Obama’s election doesn’t do anything else it should forever silence those who see skin color as a qualifying or limiting factor in what can be achieved in the land of the free. This isn’t a Pollyanna pronouncement ignoring the obvious fact pockets of prejudice still exist. But on the whole, the times aren’t changing as Bob Dylan’s song announced decades ago, they have changed.
This should also be an object lesson for those on the extreme far left who were certain Pres. Bush was using the excuse of a war on terror to turn our country into his own fascist enterprise. These same folks were earnestly concerned he might somehow use his powers as Commander in Chief to employ the military in taking America over so he could rule with an iron fist in the fashion of Benito Mussolini, Adolf Hitler or Joseph Stalin.
It is perhaps a sign of our modern times that there are Americans who think this way about their own government. The last time in our memory anyone had such fears was in Europe following John F. Kennedy’s assassination when some foreign nations were surprised to see order in the transfer of power to Lyndon Johnson.

Altus Times:
Maybe we really want socialism

I was standing in the town square in Christchurch, New Zealand (NZ) next to a policeman I had been on patrol with the day before. He advised me he was working the morning beat and suggested I come down and see him. As I stood there, the square started to fill up with young, good looking women. Some were by themselves but most were pushing baby prams and walking in twos and threes with other young women who appeared to be mothers.
"Don’t you just love it, from womb to tomb, if it wasn’t for this system these girls would never sleep with us" stated the young police constable. I did not know what he was talking about. That was the first time I had heard the term womb to tomb (it was 1981). NZ is a social welfare country and the "state" is designed to take care of you from the time your mother is carrying you in her womb, until they lay your dead body in its tomb. What made the young constable happy was the girls/women knew that if they got pregnant out of wedlock and the father did not stick around to marry her or even support the child, then NZ became the other parent. The reason for all the women in the town square was, it was welfare check day and they had to come in and pick up their "free" state aid. It would appear men love the concept; no responsibility for their sexual actions. I am not picking on NZ, they have basically copied the European socialist way of life, where you tax the heck out of your people and then keep the populous on a short socialism-welfare leash, of state-controlled existence.
It is not really "free" state aid because everyone in NZ gets to pay for that young mother and her partner’s sex life issues. You tax everyone and then spread the wealth around to those who may not have as much as you do.

The Daily Ardmoreite:
Charita Goshay: What exactly defines patriotism?
Gatehouse News Service
Call me presumptuous, but I’m betting that right at this moment, you aren’t wearing a flag pin.
What, if anything, should I deduce from this, regarding your patriotism?
Suppose you are wearing a flag pin ... but it’s made in China? Does that mean you aren’t really walking the talk? And how true-blue are those Yanks who import and sell such foreign-made Americana?
What is the definition of a patriot? Who gets to decide?
In 1961, when Vietnam was a splotch on the globe that few Americans could find, a young man spurred by President John F. Kennedy’s challenge to Americans to serve the country joined the Marine Corps. He transferred to the Navy and became a cardiopulmonary technician at Bethesda Naval Hospital, during which time he earned three Presidential Commendations.
Around the same time, another young man avoided the draft by asking for and receiving an unprecedented five military deferments.
The decorated sailor? The Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
The dodger? Dick Cheney.

But that cursed socialism, questionable associates ... Coweta American, from an editorial endorsing McCain:
Sen. Barack Obama on the other hand opposed the surge in Iraq and still today won't admit that the surge has been successful. His record is one of supporting tax increases, even though his campaign promises is to give 95 percent of the population a tax break. A large percentage of our citizens don't currently pay any federal income tax. How you can give a tax break to those that don't pay taxes in the first place seems a stretch.
Obama also wants to put the government in the health care business. If you like what the government has done with Social Security and Medicare, you will love what they can do with health care. Spending in both of those programs has outstripped the governments ability to pay and both are currently on a path to bankruptcy. Letting the same government run your health care is a recipe for disaster.
He has new programs that will add billions of dollars of new spending. Somebody has got to pay for all that new spending. Sen. Obama is a very intelligent man. He is a great orator with a very likable personality. Our concern is as much about what we don't know about him as it is about what we do know.
He is currently serving his first term in the United State Senate. Most of that time he has spent campaigning for the Democratic Presidential nomination. Still in his short time in the senate he has amassed a record recognizing him as one of the most liberal members.
We also know he has some troubling associations. Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers and Acorn are a few examples that really concern us. These individuals' and groups' actions and words offend most Oklahomans. Obama's explanation of his relationships with them seem unbelievable at best. At worst the explanations seems an outright lie.

The editor goes on to endorse Inhofe. Of course.
I wonder what they think about community organizers.
