Here's one utterly tasteless moment from Fox News that slipped through the cracks on election night. Late night Fox News host Greg Gutfeld reached a new low, even for him, when he mocked the heartfelt tears of ABC News reporter Steve Osunsami, an African American, right after Obama was declared the winner of the presidential race. It's a gutter moment that demonstrates why Faux News ratings continue slipping, and why the Republicans will continue to slip further out of touch with mainstream American society if they keep this up.
On Tuesday night, Gutfeld and correspondent Bill Schulz mocked a video clip of Osunsami breaking into tears after the historic moment when Barack Obama's election to the presidency was announced.
"I grew up in a neighborhood that was mostly black," Osunsami said. "And my father used to tell us that there's no way this country would elect a black president. Well, this evening, the country has proved my old man wrong, and we're the better for it."
It's an emotional moment. Osunsami's voice cracks several times. And when he talks about his "old man," he almost loses it, as a lot of us did that night. Anyone with a heart would be moved by the scene. But the reactions of Gutfeld and Schulz demonstrate once again that the people who work at Fox News have no hearts.
"I so wanna comfort him, right now," Gutfeld sneered, as several people off camera laughed.
Gutfeld's heartless sidekick Schulz accused Osunsami of faking his tears.
"Bill, you were convinced he was faking it," Gutfeld snarled.
"I am, and I have to say, if that's a television moment, I cry on this show every night!" responded Schulz. "Why don't we get better ratings?"
"Yeah, I do think he was faking it," Schulz continued. "It looked like he was trying to force the tears out and they weren't happening. So he could force the moment, that I come by so naturally ... Every time you hit me!"
Gutfeld laughed and hissed, "Yes! Yes, I know!"
Here's the clip, if you can stomach it:
