America today faces great problems going into the future. The free market failed in many areas, and we need to make up for it.
But more important then the failings in the stock market; there is utter ineptness in our national security system.
Over the planet today, there are many countries that have security problems, yet none have I seen that worked better than those policies enacted by President Alvaro Uribe, and the Colombians in the early years of the 21st century...
In the years leading up to the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center; the USA saw laps of security so base that it rocked the nation to its core.
The simple fact was the people hired to do these things, the overseers and on down the list; were NOT getting the job done.
With the enactment of the Patriot Act and he creation of Homeland Security, the expectations for a much better security systems were set very high. But these systems ultimately failed and created only more problems for the nation.
My plan for a solution in all areas of security and counter terrorism involve a step by step program, that will cut the issues that caused these problems in the bud, and will further encourage economic growth and ensure the freedoms of the american people.
Step 1.
Abolish Homeland Security
I know, you'll say, "WHAT??!?!? Your crazy man, your doing away with the only thing thats protecting all us good ol' joes from them heathen muslim extremists just waiting to jump in and bomb us to hell and back!" But before you do, hear me out.
Homeland Security is a Beaucratic Nightmare created by none other then Bush and Co: the Neocons. the Department of Homeland Security takes up a gigantic chunk of national budget. Not only is the agency bloated, but parts of it like the TSA are completely innefficient, and in many cases; a complete laughingstock.
Step 2.
Abolish the Patriot Act
"But didn't Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and most of the Democrats vote in favour of this one? If our party supports it, it can't be bad!"
Wrong, the Patriot Act is one of the dirtiest and sickest pieces of legislation to ever be passed by our Congress. It undermines every single line of the Constitution and strips americans of every single freedom they have. Abolishing this Piece of SHIT goes without saying.
Step 3.
Establish a Open Ended National Conscription System
"But...dude, conscription is bad...its like slavery man! Slavery for the state man! Thats like bad man!"
And in almost any normal case I'd fullheartedly agree. But the fact is National Conscription provides for everything this plan is based on, and further more; if enacted correctly, can be a source of social justification, understanding, and betterfication of our nation.
In my travellings through many nations; i've seen many conscription systems, but not all our good. The most memorable one for me, is the Colombian one, who I will have to deal with as a secondary citizen if I ever go back there.
At the age of 18 anyone who is not in the university is hauled off to and enscripted; unless of course you can afford the fee to cop out, which is about 2 regular monthly salaries. Heck its not uncommon for them to go on the streets and grab homeless children (the adult homeless children that is) off the streets and stick them into the army. Of course you're talking about a nation with something like 50,000 homeless children, nonetheless its a nasty affair and not one I'd like to emulate.
A ideal system would be Conscription that is open ended. Allowing for people to personally decide where and how they want to work. Volunteer work with both private and public entities, religious, political, and other entities should be fully acceptable, as should be training and joining the Reserves, Marines, and Military. Furthermore, for anyone whose going into College, you should be fully be able to determine when you complete this service. Before, after, or way after you finish your education, or even during.
It goes without saying that all students who complete conscription would receive full college tuition pay.
Step 4.
Militarize our Airports.
During my time living in Colombia and being there, I felt safe. Safer then being in the USA, Safer then being in any other country I have ever been.
And I wonder why, you know, Its a dangerous country, we've all heard about the atrocities and the civil war thats been going on there for just over 50 years.
But it finally dawned on me. The fact is in Colombia, everything important is militarized. On every other street corner you see army staff with Uzi's, them walking down the street is not uncommon. They are in fact everywhere.
And these aren't MPS they don't stop people and search them, or try to police the people. There simply there for defense; to stop terrorist attacks that are a everyday occurence in this country.
I can go through the security in a Colombian airport in 5 minutes and feel safer then going throught the hour log line in a american airport. Why? Because the military is the one that handles all airport security. Military people with guns handsearch your suitcase, run the metal detectors and baggage scanners; they do everything.
Now I'm not saying put soldiers on every street corner in the USA, or have them work every single transportation stop. In fact many of those things would be unconstitutional.
But the fact is america has over 1.3 million troops. Over 75% of them are stationed overseas. There are more troops stationed overseas outside of Iraq then there are in Iraq.
Wouldn't it be a better use of our money to bring them home and have them work here, securing our airports?
Hell, we don't even need Conscription to do that!
