A thought on how conservatives and progressives deal with trust issues.
On a broad scale, one of the differences between conservatives and progressives is Trust.
Progressives believe that people should be able to trust the government or the corporation or the community to do right. Not always out of any sense of morality, but also because they understand the government, corporation or community to have standards and regulations to provide oversight.
Conservatives don't trust the government, corporations or the community. Not always out of any sense of morality, but also because they don't believe the government, corporation or community to have any standards and regulations to provide oversight.
I think that may be why conservatives are so obsessed with money and wealth. Since they don't trust anything bigger than themselves or their church, they need to have as many personal resources as possible.
Maybe this is why they are so terrified with socialism. It's impossible for them to deal with the idea of socialism, because it terrifies them. They cannot trust any organization outside of their fierce individualism to do right.
