Ah yes, the sounds of Spring, when the primary fight was in full rage. Obama won the battle with Hillary and eventually won the war for the presidency.
"Obama can’t win." That’s the cover of the New York Post, as said by... Hillary Clinton to Bill Richardson. "While lobbying for his endorsement, Hillary Rodham Clinton flatly told New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson that Barack Obama could not win the presidency if he got the Democratic nomination. ‘He cannot win, Bill. He cannot win,’ she said, according to a report by ABC News."

The urgency of her call to Bill Richardson telling him that Obama could not win the presidency in the fall was all she had left. No one could blame her. But she was wrong. Very wrong. Barack Obama did in fact win--he flipped 9 red states as well as a red district in NE, and cruised to a 7 point popular vote win. President-Elect Obama had no finer surrogate in the fall than Hillary Clinton. Those of us who opposed her in the primary were mightily impressed by her support of the Obama-Biden ticket.
I know for sure Hillary Clinton could NOT have done any better than President-Elect Obama.
But my question to Kossacks is this: would Hillary Clinton have won this election too?
After reading the brilliant Newsweek special election project issue, it is obvious that Hillary's campaign would have matched McCain's in its dysfunction. Also, after watching several video montages of the primary battle I was reminded again of how prickly and strident Hillary was after Obama started beating her. Would she have been as cool as Obama in contrast to McCain?
Barack Obama was the ideal candidate for the Democratic Party in 2008. Not Hillary Clinton and obviously NOT John Edwards. However, when it is all said and done, Hillary would have eked out a very small win on November 4. It would have been 2004 all over again--except Ohio would have flipped for Hillary (and most likely NM and NV). But no way would she have carried Colorado, Virginia, Indiana, North Carolina, Iowa. Florida could have gone either way.
I was convinced all along that Obama was a safer choice, but that Clinton would win also. But I also made the point to people that if BOTH could win, wouldn't you rather wake up November 5 with Obama as President?
Thank you to the people of Iowa! Thank you to the Kennedy's! Those were the two biggest factors leading up to the Super Tuesday draw which led us to the February rout!
