In the forward to Shannon French's book "The Code of the Warrior" John McCain wrote the following paragraph people need to ponder in their post election bliss or sorrow:
"I have always found that most difficult choices between honor and dishonor occur when no one is watching. For a politican, that presents something of a dilemma. We like to have our virtue affirmed in the public spotlight. But no matter how clever you are in crafting a public image of integrity, if it is a false image, the truth will emerge, and usually sooner than expected." - Senator John McCain
It is very hard to live an honest integral life with compassion and understanding for one's fellow man. And being the head of government for 300 million people, it is even more important. People lives are on the recieving end of their government's policy. We pay for our government's sins.
Honesty can be a brute force for good or evil. It depends on who is on the recieving end and whose doing the hammering. Public opinion can be cruel mistress. In the next two months before Barack Obama is sworn in, the Republican party needs to seriously reflect on John McCain statement. The truth best come from the Grand Old Party because when public sees the ideological mission creep the Bush White House scandals seem to suggest occured there will be no mercy and no forgeting.
There must an accounting of the Bush Adminstration days in office because no democracy can bear the repeat of the last eight years. Governing with unbridaled power is more than looking good from a public relations standpoint, it means being responsible for people regardless of what you think of their political views. The Christian view of "Loving your enemy as you love yourself" will be in open for all to see and hear. If the Republican Party plays the typical political game of "shoot the messager because one doesn't like the message" the Grand Ol' Party might be shooting in itself in foot while it's has one foot in the grave. RIP GOP! The GOP might as well wrestle with it's own conscience, learn to play nice, work together with Democrats and hold President Bush accountable for any crimes committed in office.
