My son is a Coast Guard officer in California, McCain supporter and FOX hound and we had been going round and round via email about both until it got too charged and we decided to call a truce.
But now, the Calif Prop 8 nationwide challenges have reared their occasionally ugly heads. While they have maintained residence in another state and couldn't vote, I think he and his wife would have voted NO as they are respectful of my life.
But they have NO respect for violent demonstrations and thus, this exchange that I would like to share with you.
Hi Pops.
Since you are a fan of seeing all the information available when making your decisions, here is one for you:
http://www.foxnews.com/...
Though you may think very little of Fox, they are the only ones putting this out there. I even checked CNN, MSNBC, and your hallowed Olberman websites. I can’t say I was surprised to see they weren’t running it. Make sure you watch the Youtube video all the way thru to see how even "your" people will act.
I am not looking for a debate on this one. It just caught my eye and made me curious to know if anyone else would run it. Like I said, not surprised.
Love,
My reponse:
Yeah, well.......
Gay people have been remarkably restrained for decades and maybe finally had enuf. It's one thing to never get something. It's quite another to get it and have it taken away. You can expect to see more righteous anger. It was a Calif initiative and the Mormons come in there with millions to defeat it with the help of the Catholics. They can have states rights or national rights, but they can't have both and they have respect for neither. I have no doubt they would repeal the entire idea of Constitutions if they could. They have no thot for the fact that Constitutions protect them too. They should have stayed out of it except for the Calif Mormon citizens. Are you aware of how the Mormons function? Do you know anything about them? http://www.youtube.com/... It's a bit cartoonish and simplistic, but it's the basic background of their theology. They literally commanded their people all over the country to contribute on pain of excommunication, and Mormons take that very seriously. They contributed out of literal fear but the leadership apparently miscalculated. Hundreds are objecting and now leaving the church. They are getting a serious backlash. But I don't spose FOX is covering that. Hmmm?
I feel anger about it even tho I no longer have a personal stake in the outcome (well, would still be nice if I did). I understand the anger in that incident, but I would not approve of that response to that poor lady. She was obviously a sweet old lady who had no clue what she was getting involved in. I would have been trying to calm things down and you can bet that a good share of that ruckus was just that.....from other gays. FOX, of course, will not persue that tho it would be simple enuf to discover.
Bottom line is, there's no rational reason to prevent gays from marrying. For those with objections, it's all about religion and emotion, not reasoning. They can't let reason enter into the discussion because then they lose the argument. The gay anger is justified. The treatment of that lady is not but if the religious side is going to use only irrational emotions from their side, they can eventually expect the same from the other. This will get uglier. They may have awakened a sleeping giant. The most powerful and eloquent response I've heard to this marriage issue came from .....you guessed it. Keith Olberman. Please listen to it all...carefully. He makes some irrefutable and damning points: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/...
And none of that; not the rage or the politics or the hypocrisy deals with an even more important issue. Fuckin with a Constitution in the name of religion. Fools!! They don't realize they set a precedent and they could be next. You should be angry too. You took an oath "to protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic". Seems like the domestic ones are more difficult to define, huh? In fact, they are the more dangerous for precisely that reason.
Well, you got me going. "Nuf for now. (followed by some personal info)
Love to all.....
