So I commented on a diary Mieprowan wrote, "Tell me what you need" and realized that i still have never written my own diary. Well since her diary brought up a question that's been on my mind for weeks, here it is:
What do we do now?
Now, i mean, we have elected Barack Obama(woot!!)and have high hopes for the changes coming. I know that lots of people are facing some seriously tough times, my family included, but what do we do? If you are confused, well, so am I. Follow me below the fold, and I'll try to make better sense.
PE Obama ran his exemplary campaign on a message of change, and a focus on service. We know that he will encourage our youngsters to volunteer in their communities, and to serve in the military, in exchange for help with college expenses. But what I need to know is this... When my family lands on its feet again, (and it will, I can't face the possibilities itherwise) what can we do to help? What community service is really going to be effective in bringing about the change we need?
I know alot of people volunteered and donated to the election campaign, as well as to the fight against Prop 8. My family spoke at length with neighbors and friends to help pass those messages. It's been my habit to make afghans to donate to shelters come fall, and to food banks year round when we can. But it all seems so minimal. Is there some Grand Plan floating around that I haven't heard?
I guess my real issue is, I've felt so helpless as things have gone downhill, I want to know that there is something we can do as individuals to help find that Change.
Any comments, even on my spelling, lol, are appreciated. Any ideas, etc.. suggestions too, on how to write a good diary, this is my first. Thanks, btw, Dkos kept me sane through the last few months, just being able to see there are sane, intelligent people around and about.
