The second best surrogate in the country and the last Democratic Presidential nominee to win Georgia is coming to stump for Jim Martin at Vivian W. Henderson Gymnasium at Clark Atlanta University on Wednesday at 4PM.
This is a huge catch for Jim Martin who seems to be attempting to ramp up black turnout with an event at a historically African American college in Atlanta. Black turnout, which hit record heights in November in Georgia as well as the rest of the country, will be crucial to Jim Martin who slightly underperformed Obama with black voters mainly because of down ballot apathy for the Senate race, will need all the support he can get and the excitement and attention drawn from this event will hopefully serve him well in the black community. Other exciting news below the jump.
Jim Martin is also receiving the assistance of Donna Brazile who is known for her GOTV work for Gore's 2000 campaign, and with Mary Landrieu's campaign in 2002.
Update from an official Jim Martin email I received from Donna Brazile:
I'm on my way to Georgia, and I wanted to send you a quick message. When I heard Jim Martin was in a runoff, I cleared my calendar because I knew I needed to do whatever I could to ensure a big win for Jim in the 15 short days we have until the election.
Back in 2002, I helped Mary Landrieu win a runoff in Louisiana, so I know what it takes to win a race like this one, and I know that you can't win unless everyone does their part. That includes the volunteers phone banking, the canvassers knocking on doors, and supporters like you helping Jim raise the resources he needs to win.
UPDATE I:
Joining Brazile, is a new campaign manager named Jay Howser who has previously worked for candidates in red states like Indiana and Alabama and who most recently worked for Brad Ellsworth's 2006 campaign, who won by the most lopsided margin over an incumbent in 2006.
UPDATE II:
And now Obama is getting involved with a radio ad for Jim Martin encouraging his supporters to go back to the polls on December 2nd! Great, maybe this is the sign of more to come?
