Since the advent of the presidential campaign and the rest of the electoral season, along with my labor making phone calls, I contributed $1000 to various candidates and cause. This includes $300 to each of John Edwards's and Barack Obama's presidential campaign, $200 to the DSCC to elect Democrats to the Senate, and $200 disbursed directly to various candidates...Rick Noriega, Darcy Burner, Al Franken. Please follow me below the jump to review my thoughts on what I received for my time and money:
This is the value of my campaign contributions: 1) News today that prosecutions (or even investigations) about Bush regime war crimes are off Obama's table; 2) Expectant news that Joe Lieberman is about to be reinserted into Democratic ranks, with Barack's encouragement and only with the mildest of wrist slappings (I almost wrote "Democrat," since that is how much respect these guys are worthy of); 3) Hillary Clinton who spoke blithely about the obliteration of Iran, supported this wretched and illegal war to the hilt, and is still one of the Senate's premier "hawks," is likely to become our next Secretary of State; 4) a whole list of little concerns like the composition of BO's economic advisory team, the increasingly retread and Republican color of the administration forming, and a sense of persisting militarism and a new Cold War forming in bellicose statements about Georgia/Russia, missile defense shields, and talk of retaining Robert Gates (OMG), among other things. Finally, I also need to mention that close to one-third of my contributions went to support John Edwards's and Rielle (LOL) Hunter's trysts. That makes me even a bigger chump for thinking that things are really going to change. The French sadly say it best: Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.
