How can he NOT give it to her, David Gregory was speaking about Hillary and SOS. Before the election many on this site were happily speculating on who would fill cabinet posts, fine. The election is over and while some speculation is expected but getting on the rumor bandwagon is not. Please follow me below the fold for why running with rumors is not only counter productive but serves to undermine Obama's presidency.
First, lets remember Obama ran the tightest campaign in history. Leaks were nonexistant. So now after the election we are to believe they are so full of leaks they are a virtual Titanic? Believe what you wish, but I think it is a real stretch to believe they are leaking anything now, not only uncharacteristic of team Obama but very unlike no drama Obama.
I have heard not leaks really but more like trial balloons. Why on earth would they feel it is necessary to put trial balloons out there? First of all Obama is fully capable of making his own descions and has provided us more than ample opportunity to give him our input about all things great and small. The whole idea of needing trial balloons makes the transition team look weak and Obama look weaker. How can you trust someone who needs trial balloons out there to judge sentiment BEFORE he can choose his Cabinet, to take the bold steps necessary to turn this country around? See, we are already into counter productive territory.
How about Hillary? Well, think about this. She is an important part of Ted Kennedy's healthcare reform plan it and she is on the SOS short list? What it has done is dredge up all the bad feelings about Hillary, something I hoped we were past. If she doesn't get it, she will be damaged in the eyes of many, also counter productive. Going back to the Senate will be a big step down. As for Bill and his connections, why bring all that up now, when it should have been talked about when people were pushing for Hillary as VP? More dirt to alienate. And no matter who Obama ultimately chooses there will be disappointment. And a bit of his bright shininess will have been worn away. It will cost him among his supporters, more undermining of his presidency.
Why do this to him, he has barely gotten started. I know the talking heads are saying with this much info out there it has to be purposeful leaks. Why? Are there not plenty of people out there who would be well served by undermining the Obama presidency, undermining his support and tainting his judgement? Look at the fact all this drama has dominated the news cycle for days. Real news is either not covered or gets a quick perfunctory blip. Whenever your attention is diverted this shamelessly you should be wary.
You attention to the rumors only serves to make the transition look a train wreck and by extension Obama himself. This doesn't serve you, or the country or President elect Obama. So knock it off. If it doesn't come directly from Obama, or his transition team, ignore it. Just walk on by, move along, nothing going on here.
