Beyonce wants to perform for Obama at his inaguration yet there are many performers who are more qualified and would better represent the historical nature of this event!
After the jump:
Women with Dignity has started a petition to send to the Inagural Committee to state that Beyonce does not represent the type of performance befitting of such a historical event as president elect Barack Obama's Inaguration Ceremony. They are asking that all who agree with this premise sign their petition which will be forwarded appropriately. The Women With Dignity stated the following:
It's very insulting that Beyonce came from under a rock to try to capitalize on this historic moment as part of her overblown recent publicity tour. MANY stars put their fame on the line and supported President-Elect Obama early on. Oprah, Scarlett, Adam Rodriguez, Jennifer Hudson and many many others stepped out there and pledged their support publicly and financially.
Her hypersexual image and aid to the negative images of women is in itself enough to exclude her. We don't want young girls OR boys to see this behavior validated at the most public display of the world moving in a positive direction.
Also, Destiny Child was one of the acts that performed for newly elected president Bush on January 19, 2001. Beyonce has gone on a media blitz in her efforts to snag the 'top spot' at the Inaguaration. The blogs are hot with her advertising her newly released CD and her wish to perform for Obama. I can't get the visions of Marilyn Monroe signing happy birthday Mr. President to John Kennedy out my head as I imagine Beyonce performing. There are many things she should be able to do, but this is not one of them.
Huffington Post has reported Beyonce's request twice already this month:
NEW YORK — Attention, Mr. president-elect: Come Inauguration Day, Beyonce is at your service.
"I'm there. I can't wait. I feel like all of us, we're ready to do whatever we have to do. Whatever they want _ if they need me to volunteer, they need me to sing, I'm there, and I'm ready," a giddy Beyonce said in an interview the day after Barack Obama made history in becoming the nation's first elected black president.
"I've never been so patriotic!" she laughed. "I'm just beyond excited."
Would have been nice Beyonce if you had felt this patriotic before September of 2008, after it became evident that Barack would win.
The Women of Dignity are asking those who oppose a "Marilyn Monroe" I mean Beyonce performance for the president to please sign their petition and they will ensure there is dignity at the Inauguration and beyond.
Below is a link to the petition that will be delivered to the Inaugural Planning Committee:

On their website they also have a link to a Beyonce video that was requested to be removed by her fans as well as explicit photos. Their reasoning is specific:
We would welcome supporting Ms. Knowles and her career if she would aggressively work to improve her image and send positive messages and images to our children.
