Ah, what a couple of days. Wisconsin AG Von Hollen (R, McCain WI Co-Chair) gets desperate, John Gard and NRCC spread more lies, and Focus on the Family meddles in state legislative races.
Let's start with Von Hollen-
For those that don't know, JB Von Hollen is Wisconsin's Attorney General and also the WI Co-Chair of McCain's campaign. He's been on a crusade since this summer to get hundreds of thousands of voters thrown off the registration list. His rationale is that the lists need to be cross checked with other state databases. Of course, this would result in even 4 of 6 of the Wisconsin's Government Accountability Board would be thrown off of the list because of typos in the database. Thankfully, the lawsuit failed.
Recently he stated that he will dispatch state prosecutors throughout Wisconsin as poll observers to monitor for voter fraud. Now, he sent a letter to judges to notify him immediately if any legal actions are undertaken on election day -- in case they need to "initiate emergency election-related proceedings."
Von Hollen claims that this is similar to what Democratic AG Lautenschlager did in 2004. However, the difference is that Lautenschlager wanted to protect voters from attempts to stop them from voting. Von Hollen is trying to prevent some from voting.
Lautenshlager says:
I'm not quite sure what he thinks he's going to be doing here, other than mucking around with the election.

Now, on to John Gard-
John Gard is simply a tool. He wants to be a career politician, but left his state legislative position (where he was under a dark ethics cloud) to run for WI 8th district in 2006... he lost to Steve Kagen. He's back again this year. His latest round of commercials (with help from NRCC) are unsurprisingly full of distortions and outright lies.\
- Gard: Kagen wants to give healthcare and other benefits to illegal aliens...and voted to do so.
Kagan notes that it is against federal law to give benefits to illegal aliens. The votes were forced by GOP procedural tricks.
In the last session of Congress, Republicans offered procedural motions that said illegal immigrants should not be able to get federal benefits, even though Republicans knew there were already laws on the books to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving taxpayer-funded benefits.
These motions came up for votes when Congress was considering bills that provide funding for Medicare and children’s health insurance. The motions were written in a way that would have killed those bills if they had passed. Kagen voted against these politically-motivated procedural motions.
[HR 3162 Roll Call 786 8/1/07]
- Gard says Kagen raised middle class taxes by $1800.
Congress has not passed any tax increases on families while Steve Kagen has been a member.
[Congressional Budget Office]
Congressman Kagen voted to save middle-class families from being pushed into higher tax brackets.

Dirty politics at the state level. A judge ordered a conservative political group to stop running adds against a Democratic candidate for WI State Assembly District 92. The adds accuse the Democrat of wanting to double taxes to give health care to illegal immigrants. The charges are completely false.
Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Lister said Middleton-based Coalition for America's Families must stop running ads that make false representations about Mark Radcliffe, a Democratic candidate for the 92nd Assembly District.

Finally, Focus on the Family is meddling in WI State Legislative races. I used to live in Wisconsin's 94th State Assembly District. I received a letter yesterday from Focus on the Family Action.
The bogeyman is Tim Gill:
As you may be aware, there is a national effort led by homosexual multi-millionaire Tim Gill to bring San Fransisco Values to Wisconsin and other specific states around the country. How is he doing this? By shrewedly targeting key legislative races, he is helping elect those who support his extreme agenda. ...
In 2008, Gill has even larger plans. It's a mad world that Tim Gill is creating, and now he wants to reshape Wisconsin, as well! One of Gill's targets is your Wisconsin State Assembly District 94.
One of your candidates, Cheryl Hancock, is the befeficiary of Gill's efforts, as she is receiving donations from activists whose giving follows Gill's.
Focus on the Family urges us to contact Cheryl Hancock to denounce her for taking donations from gay people. FoF was even nice enough to give her phone number and website.
I called Cheryl Hancock. I thanked her for supporting the rights of ALL Americans. I visited her website and donated.
