Every time we open our wallets in this economy of ours, we cast a vote with the dollars we spend. And it's pretty important for all of us to know this and make our purchases accordingly -- we should not be supporting companies that fight the change we want to see, and we should patronize those who support the ideals we believe in.
(It's unfortunate that BuyBlue.com is no longer around...I wonder whatever happened to those guys and whether their great site will ever come back?)
But stepping into the breach with a guide based on broader criteria of social and environmental responsibility, Better World Shopper has just come out with their top ten "Best Companies in the World." I wonder how many of us are already clued in to (and patronizing) these companies.
The top ten?
- Seventh Generation
- Working Assets (aka CREDO)
- Eden Foods
- Organic Valley
- Clif Bar
- Honest Tea
- Patagonia
- Tom's of Maine
- Ben & Jerry's
- Aveda
(Here's the press release as posted on JustMeans.com. And here's the link to the top-ten rankings as posted on BetterWorldShopper.org.)
So I wonder, Kossacks -- how many of these companies do you regularly patronize? And are there one or two more that you're now thinking about dealing with more in the future? Who else do you think should have made that list?
