For those of you who don't pay attention to football, each year, Grambling State University and Southern University play each other in the Louisiana Superdome in what is known as "The Battle of the Bands." Although it is an important rivalry for both football teams, the game is better known for the halftime performance featuring each school's marching bands.
This afternoon, both schools capitalized on history....
Grambling led off by spelling BCFX, honoring the black college football experience. After marching out of that formation, Grambling regrouped and spelled OBAMA to the delight of the packed Superdome crowd.
Then it was Southern's turn. Not to be outdone, Southern went into formation to spell JAN20, then moved swiftly and sharply to also spell out OBAMA. Again, cheers and applause echoed all around the Superdome.
Both bands were outstanding, and I would love to be able to link to this as soon as Youtube or NBC posts this online.
Congratulations to the band directors at both Grambling and Southern for paying the highest tribute any marching band can pay, especially in the building that represented the very worst that Obama's predecessor and his administration had ever displayed....
Update...I have still photos that I copied from my Tivo, but I'm a novice on how to upload (and I don't have a flickr or an online photo sharing account). I'll try to figure this thing out. Please ck back later. Thanks.
