A story in The Observer about a speech by Chancellor Brown will turn your head.

While I am not an expert on British politics, I do maintain a considerable interest in it, & this is the strongest, most coherent language I have seen linked to Mr. Brown in recent years. Change may be around the corner.
So, in regards to the recent letter drive sponsored by The Guardian, let's make a deal: we Americans will get rid of Bush, but you Brits have to get rid of Blair by the time Kerry takes office!
Its going to take a brand new team to get things done right, and Kerry-Brown-Zapatero-Shroeder-Chirac sounds like a good team to me.
Some excerpts:
'There is such a thing as progressive politics achieved by people coming together for the common good to do what needs to be done but cannot be achieved just by markets, however dynamic, cannot be achieved by charity, however philanthropic, cannot be achieved by individuals on their own, however well meaning, can only be achieved in a public realm where people think of themselves not as consumers but as neighbours and citizens.'
In the clearest indication yet of what the Labour Party would look like under a Gordon Brown leadership, he announced that a 'British progressive consensus' should now replace the Thatcherite ideology of the market as the dominant political thread of the 21st century.
'Having established the role of markets and the limits of government, we must also explain the limits of markets and the role of government: that the town square is more than a marketplace, the city centre more than where people buy and sell, the community more than a collection of individuals,' he said.
Now that's what I'm talking about!
