Today Jimmy Carter and the Carter Center announced that Guinea Worm Cases are at an all time low. Quietly, President Carter and his Center chip away at causes that don't make a lot news but effect the lives of so many people in areas of the world we tend to forget about.
Kristof says it all ... if only all our past presidents could contribute to the world as he has.
So what is a Guinea Worm?
Here's the wiki link and the link to information on the program at the Carter Center.
We should thank Jimmy for this and much much more. Many forget that during his presidency foundations were laid for addressing energy issues and if succeeding presidents had continued the programs and research efforts we would, most likely, may have avoided our problems with changes in climate that may lead to an unsustainable world. For example the huge solar power array near Barstow Ca, was built in the 1980s. (In fact - his efforts lead to the creation of the Dept. of Energy and a national energy Act that " included a National Energy Conservation Policy Act. And in 1980, he signed the
Energy Security Act, consisting of six major acts: U.S. Synthetic Fuels Corporation Act, Biomass Energy and Alcohol Fuels Act, Renewable Energy Resources Act, Solar Energy and Energy Conservation Act and Solar Energy and Energy Conservation Bank Act, Geothermal Energy Act, and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion Act.
So thank you Jimmy Carter for all you've done and are doing.
What do you thank President Carter for?
