David Axelrod, FOX News Chicago - November 23
Q: Has he expressed a preference, however, on who might replace him in the Senate?
A: He has not. I know he's talked to the governor.

President-elect Barack Obama, press conference - December 9
I had no contact with the governor or his office and so I was not aware of what was happening.

If Axelrod spoke in error - which, frankly, would seem out of character for him - he had better say so. As in: before this evening's news broadcasts.
And before you start attacking me, look in the mirror. Any of you would be screaming your heads off if this were the governor of Arizona arrested for planning to auction off John McCain's Senate seat. And if McCain's senior campaign advisor flatly contradicted the substance of a McCain denial - with McCain saying he didn't want to comment on an ongoing investigation - you'd be howling for blood.
We're supposed to be better than them, remember? The stink of this situation needs a bright scouring of daylight - and the sooner, the better.
