Well no he wasn't, but you might have thought he was if you were watching MSNBC when the story of the Governor of Illinois being arrested broke. They were in the middle of covering this truly breathtaking news event when in mid-sentence they dropped their coverage to switch to what they considered to be a more important "breaking" story: Jay Leno's press conference.
A lot of people might say, "what's the bid deal?" The corruption story was being covered on several other news channels. Why not just switch over to another station's coverage? NBC owns MSNBC and it should be no surprise to anyone that they would take control of their cable news outlet in order to advertise one of their most reliable sources of revenue: Jay Leno.
Well, the big deal here is more about the way they went about promoting Jay Leno's move to Prime Time (which was a non-news story since it had already been widely reported before the news conference.) They should have taped the event and then gone to that story when a natural break arose in their coverage of the Illinois Governor corruption story. But the Entertainment Division of NBC just showed who is really running MSNBC News: Jay Leno. And I really am wondering today if there is ANY news story that NBC would have considered more important to the public's interest than Jay Leno.
