EBetty was amused by HuffPo's asking David Mamet, after many people likened his dialogue to Blagojevich's wiretapped conversations, for his take on the enfolding drama. Now EBetty has never really understood the subtle ironies of Mamet, as she is a pretty innocent creature and doesn't understand half the despicable things that go on behind closed doors. Although Blagojevich was, shall we say, unsubtle, and frankly she thought, downright stupid. Sarah Palin's forked tongue and stonewalling began to look positively brilliant next to him. He certainly didn't keep his cards to his chest. Would that all criminals were that dumb. But anyway, back to Mamet. EBetty has frankly a hard time with him, except for his movie The Winslow Boy which she absolutely loves!! She is a sucker for a British costume drama and Jeremy Northam, which explains a good deal of her enthusiasm. But anyway, Mamet on Blagovich was sweet. See below...
I am from Chicago, and, so, having been disillusioned with politics at an early age I do not become involved. The only reason I vote is because they pay me.
EBEtty must admit, that it took a couple of readings before the light went off and she got the joke. But she guesses, it's because she lives in the State of Grace!
She jests merrily, verily!
Update: The Winslow Boy is originally a play by Terrance Rattigan that Mamet made into a movie, it also has a line that may not be quoted exactly, as it has been awhile since EBetty has seen the movie: "Very easy to do justice, much harder to do right." Apt.
