Che the Movie has opened in the U.S. Well only in LA and New York for now.
I would recommend the new Che Movie which comes out January 9th all over the U.S. Even though it is over 4 hours long it is very enjoyable. I had the pleasure of seeing the movie in LA and I really liked it. I won't spend my diary giving details about the movie because I want you all to see it when it comes out.
People have different opinions on Che and what he represents, his methods of achieving his goals, and his relationship to Fidel Castro. However, a lot of what he believed in makes sense if you look at it from an outsiders point of view.
If you've ever read the book or saw the movie the Motorcycle Diaries you know that Che spent a little more than a year in between his Medical School studies traveling throughout Central and South America. During this trip he saw how poor people were living in the region and how poor indigenous people were being exploited for profit, primarily by North American Corporations.
After his Motorcycle trip he spent some time in a Leper Colony helping treat people. Subsequently, he returned to Argentina and finished his Medical Studies. After finishing his studies he still had the itch to help improve the lives of people in Latin America, so he traveled more throughout Central America, and ended up in Mexico, where he met Fidel Castro.
In the movie, the first time we see Che is when he is in Mexico City. I won't go into any more details of the movie, don't want to spoil it for anyone.
However, I would recommend everyone to watch the movie. If you've ever traveled throughout Latin America, Che is an icon, he has become a Martyr for people who want to fight the system that holds them back. Now most people aren't willing or able to take up arms against their own governments, however, you can take up "arms" in other ways, such as organizing, etc....
One movie quote that I will write is "In America, people believe the myth of the self made person, however, most people's opportunities are influenced and determined by circumstances outside of their control." And another movie quote, Che talking to Sen. McCArthy "I want to thank you for the Bay of Pigs invasion, there is nothing more powerful for the solidarity of a people, than by a U.S. backed invasion." Kind of brings into light the Iraq War...
I would recommend everyone to read his books or watch the movie. Many politicians have demonized Che for political gain, but if you look at Che's viewpoints from the outside, you will get a different perspective.
