Orange Clouds (her diary is on the Rec. list) as well as a diary from Scaredhuman concern much that is going on in farming country. These issues not only affect farmers who are losing their farms but the security of our food in the face of monopolistic practices of the big agribusiness concerns. Orange Clouds has asked us to sign a petition--it only takes about 30 seconds to do so and it is guaranteed to get the attention of the Obama administration if we can get 100,000 sigs (they have about 50,000 at present). More after the fold. Here are Orange Clouds' and Scaredhuman's diaries: Orange Clouds' diary Scaredhuman's diary
The issue of food security is too vital to leave up to those who are shills for agri-business concerns. Only eight multi-national companies, Cargill, Continental, ConAgra, Louis Drefus, Bunge, Carnac, Mitsui/Cook, and Archer Daniels Midland - are in control of 85% of the world's food production. And they will give us the food they decide to give us--or not.
They have set the agenda and are continuing to set the agenda in the Bush administration which is likely to remove some of the last regulations that keep these corporations from doing anything that they want. Please sign the petition at Food Democracy Now. It only takes about thirty seconds to do so. Your children and grandchildren will thank you for it one day.
