On Tuesday Sen. Harry Reid showed what it is to be a true to our party's core values and beliefs by announcing he would not vote in favor Judge Roberts' confirmation. He does so not because he believes Roberts is hostile to settled law or an ideologue but because Roberts refused to answer any questions that would allow the Senate to form an educated opinion on what kind of Chief Justice he will be.
Today Sen. Feingold decided the opposite as he voted for him in committee which not only undermines the party leadership's effort to oppose his confirmation but it sets a very dangerous precedent. Sen. Feingold has made sure that their next nominee doesn't have to answer the questions that must answered in order to preserve years of progress through precedent after precedent.
To be completely honest I'm not fan of Sen. Feingold. His vote against sending troops to stop the mass genocide in the Balkans saw to that because it made it impossible for me to say the word "leader" in conjunction with his name.
Leaders are what this party needs desperately.
Leaders do not vote for the confirmation of an ideologue like Roberts who defines the phrase "wolf in sheeps clothing".
Leaders don't sell out the nominating process for the most important appointments that the Seante can make -- lifetime SCOTUS appointments -- to pander to the right in an effort to seems less liberal.
A leader stands up when everyone else is sitting.
Feingold is not a leader he's a traitor to both the Democratic Party and the people trying to preserve a women's right to choose.
Shame on you Sen. Feingold.
