You guys just about had me convinced that by selecting Rick Warren to give the convocation at his inauguration, Obama was signaling that the gay and lesbian community that supported him would get nothing from his administration but a giant Bronx cheer.
So what's this?
Rep. Tammy Baldwin has made the cut to be part of an exclusive Washington club. She will serve as one of 15 honorary co-chairs for Barack Obama's presidential inauguration next month. Others on the list include three former presidents and members of Obama's family.
"Every Inauguration holds special significance, but the swearing-in of Barack Obama as president marks a turning point in American history," Baldwin said in a statement Monday. "It's a privilege to have a role in this historic event."
Baldwin, who campaigned for Obama, is one of two openly gay members of Congress.
So here Obama goes, selecting the first out lesbian Congresswoman ever to serve alongside a small cadre of close confidants as part of his inaugural committee. Just what on earth is he thinking?
What's more, Baldwin was a Hillary Clinton Superdelegate, an early and eager endorser of the New York Senator. So what kind of mixed signals is Obama sending now, after rejecting the PUMAs for lo these many months?
I just can't stand how someone who claims to be reaching beyond partisan divides and across ideological boundaries can be so darn all over the map with these selections. It's almost like he wants to be everybody's president instead of just mine!
