This is not going to be a political diary.  If you need to flame me for it, or the admins ask me to take it down, I'm more than willing to do so.  I just don't have anyone else to ask, and I have to ask for help from someone.

My last couple of diaries sort of sum up my present circumstances, so I won't rehash all of that, but it amounts to me being in pretty dire straits.  With that in mind, I'm asking for your help, kossacks.

Update [2008-12-25 14:30:12 by Marcus Tullius]:

Thanks for everything, folks.  It looks like the situation has worked out as best it could.  I can't thank you all enough for this.  You guys are great.

Many blessings.

MT

My roommate, Mini, is a native Californian, now living in PDX with me.  She moved here in February '08.  She left behind a lot of friends and family, and her ex-fiance, who she's still good friends with.  Tonight (about 15 minutes ago, actually) her ex (J__) sent her a message that has absolutely wrecked the holiday.  J__'s cousin, C___, was stabbed today.  Mini and C___ have been close friends for many years, and she is devastated.  C___ is currently in the ICU, and his prognosis is extremely poor.  He is not expected to survive.  He is in septic shock, and is bleeding internally.  I'm getting this all third-hand, but as I understand, one of the multiple stab wounds pierced his intestines, and he's basically poisoning, or has poisoned, his own body cavity.  He also lost a lot of blood.

I wrote this to ask for help, to see if any of you have any frequent flier miles, or suggestions, or, I don't know, anything.  Mini would like to be able to say goodbye to C___, and, gods forbid, attend the memorial.  At this point, we're not even sure she'd be able to get there soon enough to see him, but I'm calling everyone I know, trying to do what I can.  But I don't think I'm going to be able to swing it.  So...

Anyway, I feel like a schmuck.  I mean, it seems like all my diaries these days are whiny rants about being broke or needing help, but I'd feel worse if I didn't do everything in my power to try to get her down there to see him.  So, kossacks, I'm standing here, digitally speaking, with my hat in my hand, begging for your help.  If you've got flier miles, or can think of another way to get her to Los Angeles cheaply (VERY cheaply), please, please, please, pipe up.  At this point, any ideas or help, well, it's more than I've got right now.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
