For about two weeks in the election just passed, a few hucksters floated the idea of Joe the Plumber in 2010. Not so fast, in 2008 we had a real candidate for national political office with a weaker resume than even a plumber. I’m an office cleaner and I was in the mix from the first week of June on. I thought I had a few substantial ideas; I guess not. One was a different way to approach immigration reform; plus I threw in a few other populist ideas to go along with the impressive job title I’ve held for 18 years.
Should I go back to janitoring full time if I can only pull in 1200 votes, and screw 2010?
I was honest to a fault. I wasn’t afraid to lean to the left; or to the right, or stay put in the center. It was all to no avail. For example look below to my one line answer to a League of Women Voter questionnaire from the summer and repeated by me at a largely unreported 3rd debate which I felt I won and where basically the same question was asked again. ((If you research me I stunk at first debate, it was like an out of body experience. I had never held a mike or spoke to a group before. The independents were not invited to the 2nd debate; "The Main Event," hosted by the feckless, in the tank, local paper. But I was so disgusted with my fellow Republican, our incumbent, at that first debate (why? I'll spare the details, or maybe later????) that I e-mailed our local paper to say I’d vote for the Democrat. A good portion of the mini drama that unfolded is played out in www.theyokelnews.com my web site. Turn up the volume on your console. If you go to my mission statement; with Frank Zappa playing in the background; I try to describe the frustration days before the election.))
10. How can civil liberties be preserved while giving our government the necessary tools to fight terrorism?
Gary Stein-
"Strong public approval for watchdog groups including the ACLU is a check on abusive government intrusions. And that’s from a conservative."
Here’s another answer by me to the League questionnaire.
4.. What kind of health care reform do you support to combat the growing number of uninsured Americans.
Gary Stein-answer from first week in Sept.
"I’m an Independent Republican for Universal Health Care...,
...I’ve talked about the possibility of taking over the big three automakers health care... ....Now we hear the presidential candidates floating financial aid to them to fund the next generation of energy efficient cars. I led; my 2 or 3 fans will tell you."
Have I piqued anyone’s interest in my ideas on immigration reform? My raison d'etre (whoa! heady term) for jumping in the political cesspool in first place? I doubt it! That cynicism in last sentence is my real world education from June to late Dec.
If a few of you could spare me a little time over the holiday’s "(follow the education (apprenticeship) of Duddy Kravitz, a middle aged Jewish man (played by Gary Stein) who will do anything to make a point, which is the only way he thinks he can... )" and visit www.steinforcongress.com which is still identical to the way it was in mid. Sept., and then go to, and hopefully snicker along with www.theyokelnews.com which a friend helped post with two weeks left to go in the election. Everything is dated and I don't re-edit anything.
I send out a lot of e-mails I know will never be opened. Just yesterday for example I sent these two.
Here’s the teaser in the subject box: EX-CANDIDATE NOW SATARIST, NO IT'S NOT Al FRANKEN
Here’s the body of letter: "I'm spanning the continent, from New York University and Columbia to UCLA. The New York Times to the LA Times, looking for a pat on the back and any encouragement in my tireless quest pushing immigration reform. So far I haven't got any. "Delete me" or "unsubscribe me" is not encouragement but does qualify as a response.
Am I crazy? Yes and getting crazier by the hour. Follow my descent into madness in www.theyokelnew.com Things were pretty normal in my life until I accompanied two illegals (friends) back to Mexico 13 months ago. Throw in a run for United States Congress.....
An hour earlier I sent this e-mail with the subject box typed in: an intervention and sent it
To: bdane@fairus.org; imehlman@fairus.org; hector@hispaniclink.org; joseisla3@yahoo.com
4 diametrically opposed activists. And I said in body of letter;
"an intervention www.theyokelnews.com style. Dan Stein is also invited to my (Gary Stein's) group.
You want to see exasperation? As in frustration at my attempts at immigration reform? Open the attachment that is Issue 36 of the www.theyokelnews.com it will never make the web site."
Dan Stein is the ring leader of the right wing group.

I had a few entries in the Kos a few weeks back. I criticize Bill O’Reilly for attacking the Kos. I started out adulthood as a registered Democrat. I could be persuaded by some thoughtful reaction to my story of 08 and comments from you about my firsthand experience with Mexico and illegal aliens, that I would likely re-register in 09, as a Democrat.
Something about this Kos web site feels good. I get to write about immigration reform of, by and for the dispossessed and do it on Christmas day
My little sanctuary (also an immigration buzz word) that is my web site includes song lyrics to end each edition of yokel news that is posted.
Here’s one just for the Kos. Re-typed out of my old vinyl Richard Harris album: My Boy, the song Why Did You Leave Me by Richard Harris and Bill Whelan. Who remembers that voice of his from McArthur Park?
Where am I going
Where did I come from
Run from
Wont you tell me
Where did you run to
Why did you leave me
Grieve me
Wont you tell me
Will we meet some day
When time is cold and gray
Will our memory say
We’ve grown too old.... (story of my life!G.Stein)
Go to msn search, type in gary stein for congress
Congressional Questionnaire: District 2 for rest of questions and answers.
P.S. Since I’ve put this diary entry to the side for a few hours, I’ve taken a call from a friend who’s in Puerto Vallarta on vacation. One person in the group, he and his wife are hanging out with, has a car and truck dealership "one thousand miles north of North Dakota" and when the man left for vacation it was 60 below zero. I asked my friend how the dealership is doing. The answer was it’s doing fantastic because he’s right near new drilling for natural gas. That led me to ask my friend to ask his acquaintance if they need any help, I know just the right Mexican guy. By coincidence the man was considering the locals down there, but didn’t think any of them could stand the cold. If there is one person I know who is tough.... To be continued
p.s.s. the links don't work, I used the brackets etc. I pressed the ctrl and F5, shift and re-load button(?). What' up? I removed all the brackets because the links were not showing up at all. Type the yokel news in your search bar. Thank you
