Although the Obama campaign has been all about change, which I endorse, the goals of an Obama presidency are just as much about restoration. In this spirit, I offer a humble Christmas carol to all. It is meant to be sung to the tune and rhythm of "White Christmas" (including its little-known introduction) . . .
The banks have fallen,
The wars rage on,
The rates of foreclosures swell.
The jobless and vets now pay
For overstretched U.S.A.
But nine states swung sharply to the left:
Three southern, three mountain, three Midwest!
I'm dreaming of a new country
Just like the one we used to know:
Middle class ascendant,
The land resplendent,
Humane treatment of each foe.
I'm dreaming of a new country
That we leave better than before.
May our star audaciously glow
And to all the world again bring hope.
