Not really, but I gave the vet permission to shoot him so full of anesthetic that he died in my arms.
Chico was ten years old though I have only known him for the last three, he belongs or belonged to my girlfriends mother. He was a fairly rambunctious dog who always greeted you by jumping on you and licking your face. He lived with my girlfriends mom who I will refer to as Mrs. Young from here on out and his girlfriend Goldie. So anyway on Christmas day Mrs. Young told me that Chico had stopped eating and seemd to have trouble walking, he was listless and prone to lying in the basement in the dark. I was worried but knew there wasn't anything I could do so I just hoped he would get better and forgot about it. Then on Sunday Mrs. Young told me that Chico hadn't eaten anything except a sausage for three days and he was even more lethargic and unable to stand. So I decided to make an appointment at the vet where I take my cats even though neither her or I really had the money to pay for it, but what else could I do he was obviously suffering. I was hoping the vet would tell me he had a cold and just needed some steroids or something and he would get better. Instead he told me that Chico had become anemic due to the fact that his body was no longer producing red blood cells and he would probably be dead in three days without a blood transfusion. So I called Mrs. Young and told her what the vet told me and she asked me what I thought she should do, so I told her that there was no way we could afford a blood transfusion and even if he got it he would still be sick he would just need another one and another one and another one. I didn't want to be the one to say it but I did I said the best thing to do is to put him down so atleast he won't be in pain anymore. I held him while they gave him the shot rubbing his nose and telling him he was a good boy, all the while in my mind I am begging him to forgive me for what I am doing to him. Anyway goodbye Chico you really were a good boy.
And if there is a god he'd better be throwing a ball for Chico right now or I'll go upside his head.
Update I want to thank everyone for the kind words, and whoever fixed my tags you are an angel.
